Teeth are very important for you. They bite and chew food to make it small enough to be swallowed .Teeth also help you to form words so that you can speak properly.
Your first teeth are called deciduous teeth ,they are also called Milk Teeth because initially you are living only on milk.They are called deciduous because like the leaves of a deciduous tree you lose them. You have 20 deciduous teeth and they start growing into your mouth from about 6 months of age. Initial teeth are also called Primary or Baby Teeth.From about 6 years of age until 12 years of age, you start to lose them.
Your second teeth are called permanent teeth ,they are also known as Adult teeth.You will have 32 permanent teeth. They are called permanent teeth because if you look after them well you can have them for all of your life.The permanent teeth push out your milk teeth as they grow.
Teeth have two major parts - Crown (the top part ) & Root (the part which is not seen) Teeth have three layers :Enamel, Den-tile & Pulp. Pulp is soft inner part of the teeth.
There are 3 different shapes of teeth in your mouth.These are 3 different types of teeth. All the different types have different work to do in your mouth.
Incisors - They are for cutting.
Canines - They are for tearing.
Pre-molars or Molars - They are for grinding & chewing.
